How to Use this Application

A quick guide to exploring coordinate reference systems, filtering grids, and analyzing technical spatial data.

1
Select System

Use the left dropdown in the header to switch between Graticules (Lat/Lon), UTM Zones, and State Plane Coordinates.

2
Filter & Zoom

Use the right dropdown to filter specific intervals (e.g., 10° Grid) or jump directly to a specific Zone (e.g., UTM Zone 17).

3
Inspect Data

Click on the map (on a grid line or zone) to view its precise technical details in the Inspector Panel (Left or Bottom).

4
3D Exploration

Click the 3D Button in the bottom-left corner of the map to switch between a flat map (2D) and a global scene (3D).

Coordinate Concepts

Graticules (Latitude & Longitude)

The universal language of location. A spherical grid measuring angles from the Earth's center.

  • Best for: Global navigation (GPS) and large-scale maps.
  • Unit: Degrees (°).

UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator)

A global metric grid that divides the world into 60 zones. Each zone is flattened to minimize distortion.

  • Best for: Regional mapping, military, and scientific research.
  • Structure: 60 Zones, each 6° wide.

State Plane Coordinate System (SPCS)

A high-precision local grid designed for US surveyors. It minimizes distortion over small areas to ensure accurate property measurements.

  • Best for: Legal surveys, engineering, and property records.
  • Key Concept: Uses "False Easting" to ensure all local coordinates are positive numbers.
